Birds of a Feather
http://www.theguardian.com/media/2014/jan/03/birds-of-a-feather-viewers-flock-to-itv-remake

Summary of the story: This article talks about the creators of the Essex-based sitcom. and how it took their pitch for a new series to the BBC but  offered only a Christmas special and adding some new touches. however ITV gains and BBC losses. They have written quite few scripts and the ITV liked it so decided to put it up for christmas special.  Moreover, they are making a comeback of sitcom

key information or statistic:
  • average of 7.8 million viewers
my view on the story:
Personally I thought it was horrible, there was such a huge Ronnie Barker shaped hole in it that I found it almost laughable but for all the wrong reasons.

How I taught my son to love vinyl

Vinyl records
http://www.theguardian.com/technology/2013/dec/26/how-i-taught-my-son-to-love-vinyl

Summary of the story:  This article is about a father that has watched a film and from it he has remembered how valuable it is too him and wants to pass it on to his son so that he can value it.The myth of analogue vs vinyl is akin to the "which religion is best" argument.  They are inferior to digital CD's for clarity. But there is no mistaking that vinyl has a warmth and presence you cannot find in digital and you can feel the inaudible bass in your belly.

my view on the story: This all don't make sense to me

YouView shareholder funding up 30%

YouView
http://www.theguardian.com/media/2013/dec/30/youview-shareholder-funding-bbc-itv-bt

Summary of the story:  This article talks about the YouView.

YouView's annual financial filing reveals the extent of the upscaling of the business, which almost doubled staff numbers from 29 to 55 between the end of March 2012 and the end of March this year.
Research and development numbers rose from one to 15, while those in administration grew from 28 to 40.

key information or statistic:
  • BBC, ITV, BT and others paid out more than £40m in last financial year as internet-based TV service launched
  • staff costs increasing by almost 50%
  • YouView's employee costs similarly saw a major rise, up 44% from £3.25m to £4.64m yearonyear
  • Nearly all of the well over 500,000 households that have a YouView set
  • over 30,000 YouView set-top boxes have been sold directly to consumers through retail outlets
my view on the story:Get it built into tvs, it's a lovely platform and most tvs have horrid smart tv and programme guide interfaces so if it can be built in and record to a usb hard drive then it will really take off
